King Henry ascended the throne after usurping King James and throwing his two sons, Richard and Geoffrey in prison. King Henry threatened them with death unless they swore allegiance to him.

As the final time grew closer, Geoffrey told Richard that King Henry would never hear him beg for his life. This angered Richard, who was the more practical of the two brothers, and made him exclaim: "Why Geoffrey you fool, as it if mattered how one fell!"

Upon hearing this, Geoffrey replied:

"When the fall is all that is left, it matters a great deal"
